Vietnam-era Green Beret's body home 42 years later (Laotian farmer & missing Zippo lighter)

Vietnam-era Green Beret's body home 42 years laterBy the Associated Press Posted: 04/30/2011 01:03:00 AM PDT CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- No one had seen Sgt. 1st Class Donald Shue since he was on a mission in Laos during the Vietnam War in November 1969, so his sister was skeptical when Army officials called a few months ago to say his remains had been found. "I said, 'No you didn't. I don't believe it. It's been 42 years. You don't have any proof of that,' " said his sister, Betty Jones. Then they revealed the clue that identified Shue: a Zippo...

Zippo Lighter vanity

Recently acquired a Zippo lighter. Don't even smoke, but it goes everywhere with me. Still made in USA! Thing is: A Zippo lighter is sort of a hobby. About once a week the lighter needs fuel, since it slowly evaporates.

Find on lake floor sparks memories (MN)

A piece of Don Sunstrom's past has been missing for 40 years. While fighting in Vietnam, he'd gotten a fancy engraved cigarette lighter as a keepsake to remind him of a place he later would try to forget. But he lost the lighter in the jungles of Southeast Asia. Two months ago, Sunstrom, 65, who now lives in Blaine, was stunned to learn that the Zippo lighter had been found -- at the bottom of a lake in southern Wisconsin. Scott Mitchen, a professional treasure hunter and author, found the lighter during a dive in Delavan Lake and plans to...

Zippo Lighters Under Fire

I’m generally not one to place much stock in conspiracy theories, but when an American institution comes under senseless attack from within, it gives me pause to reconsider my cherished beliefs. Events I’ve encountered over the past several weeks have left me no choice but to conclude there’s a conspiracy of hydra-like proportions slithering unnoticed through our country. It’s so far-reaching, it’s almost impossible to unearth its roots. And so insidious, it goes largely unnoticed. One of the last testaments to American ingenuity, the venerable Zippo lighter, is systematically being dismantled by agents working under the auspices of homogenization. The...

Flexible companies change to stay put (Made in America)

BRADFORD, Pa. -- Zippo Manufacturing, a small-town company owned by the same family since it was founded in 1932, is hiring. Zippo insists on making its iconic lighter, with a trademark rectangular shape and a distinctive slip-click shut, in the U.S. It is starting a production line for a new pocket lighter aimed at cigar aficionados and pipe smokers, and it plans to move manufacturing of a multipurpose lighter, used to light candles and grills, from China to Bradford, Pa.

Good Lord, I've been zotted!

Since the Bible God is advertised by Christians to be the only true source of wisdom, justice, and morality in the universe, it's only proper to examine what this "God" says about one of the major problems of our fallen human society. The Bible God is declared the one true fountain of wisdom in the following: James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. The problem to be investigated is that of adultery and unfaithful spouses. God...

STATEMENT ON LIGHTER BAN ON AIRPLANES < Zippo Lighters Under Fire from TSA >

STATEMENT ON LIGHTER BAN ON AIRPLANES By Greg Booth, President and CEO Zippo Manufacturing Company The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced that all lighters will be prohibited from “sterile” areas of airports and on board aircraft. This action is in response to a provision in the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, which was signed into law by the President in December 2004. Although Zippo® Manufacturing Company does not believe that lighters, in general, pose a hazard on aircraft, we do agree with the TSA that fueled lighters could pose a potential security risk if carried into the...

Zippo Upset by Federal Airport Ban

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- The war on terror is making an American flame sputter. Zippo Manufacturing Co., which prides itself on its classic brass-and-chrome butane lighters, says new air travel security regulations could cut into sales by as much as 30 percent. The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has announced it will ban butane, electric and absorbed fuel lighters aboard all aircraft and in areas behind airport security gates beginning in April. Such lighters were already banned in checked baggage, but passengers previously had been allowed to have two lighters in their carry-on luggage. Zippo officials will meet with federal officials later...
